A most beautiful and marvelous rendition of this hymn from Mahalia Jackson. She was a great and wonderful woman , a true Christian, the salt of the Earth, may she be blessed by God and soar though the heavens on angel wings in eternal peace. God be with you and bless you sister!

  18. Jeffyd64 says:

What a blessing, hard to believe she died in 1972 and age 60, heavens gain but our loss so young.

  19. BesACB says:

Most people fall short of the ideals of their professed religion, some people are even truer and nobler than the religion they fondly embrace.

  23. JudahCub1981 says:

I didn’t think so at first because Mahalia was very dark in complexion but when you look at her features they really say that there was a Native American somewhere in her family history. Then I researched it myself and found a couple of articles that lists her among famous Americans with Native American heritage and both articles say that Mahalia was part Choctaw ‘Indian’.

  24. JudahCub1981 says:

Actually I read in two different articles online that she was part Choctaw Indian. That’s the predominant Native American ethnic group in Louisiana and neighboring states…
