You probably already know that love can provide you with great happiness (and sorrow) as well as meaning to your life. Did you know that the energy of love can also help you live better and longer?

Looking at love in scientific terms can help explain what is going on and help you better determine what to do. Science shows that love is not based on something magical; rather, it can be explained by electromagnetic waves building upon one another, amplified by chemicals, which in turn strengthen those waves, creating an energy pattern that builds upon itself, creating coherently resonating waves in your head, heart and body. Physical stimulation can add even more waves, and then ratchet them even higher. Chemicals keep these waves flowing, intensifying them to the wondrous, powerful love you have experienced.

As such, love is ultimately an energy, a particular energy pattern. When you are “in love” all your energies (your brain and heart waves/ EEGs and ECGs) are flowing in one direction, focused on one thing and strengthened. This is a little like a laser.

Often we love, want to be in love, to balance shortcomings in our own past, in our energy patterns.

When mystics use the word “love” they tend to use it with detachment from any personal desire. Their interpretation of love is of a power, an energy that not only helps you feel better, but also helps you determine how to act – as in a loving way. As such, spiritual love is about a way of living, of using energy.

Love, especially when heightened during sex, is often when you glimpse this and is why so many people crave love and sex; it provides a hint of what else there is to life and can make you feel like you are part of something greater and prompt great creativity. Maybe this is why some people equate God with love.

Mother Teresa suggested it isn’t what you do, but the amount of love that you do it with that counts. She said that if you do something with the positive energy of love it is generally going to be easier and more effective.

This is why we all want to be in love: it brings together your energies, adds someone else’s to further strengthen your own and ultimately makes you feel happy. When you are in love, you experience one of the most coherent electromagnetic wave patterns you ever feel in your body in your life.
