I mean.. we are really serious and close, he wanted to buy me a golden or any other prescious metal ring but said its gonna be a friendship ring. Is it the same as a promise ring? we’re both in our early 30s

Well, it could mean that he considers you a good partner and a great friend. I don’t think it counts as a promise ring though…
This shows he doesn’t want to be tied down or make a commitment. He’s going to put a ring on you to basically keep you from asking where the relationship is going, but by calling it a friendship ring, he actually avoids making any kind of commitment to you. If it was a promise ring, you’d have the expectation of an engagement sometime in the future, but by calling it a friendship ring, he sidesteps the issue. Accept the ring if you want to, but keep your eyes open.
