Dating is complicated. There’s no way to sugarcoat it, but there are tips and advice that can help you uncover dating secrets crucial to your happiness. You’ve always wanted an active dating life, but never knew how to get out there and grab it, until now. The biggest challenge for anyone entering, or re-entering the dating scene is to remember a few basic rules. These rules will prevent you from scaring or insulting your date, and maybe even prevent you from embarrassing yourself altogether.

The first of the dating secrets you need to know is; if you ask for the date, you plan the date. Asking a girl to go on a date with you, and making her plan all the details will make a second date unlikely. You should know (before date night) where you’re going for dinner, and have a plan for after dinner since you’ll probably want a goodnight kiss. The first date is your only chance to really show your date that you know how to treat a lady, and making her do all the work doesn’t exactly scream ‘I’m the guy for you’.

Dating secrets are only secret because everyone is too ashamed to talk about them, and that’s especially true with the next one. Never, under any circumstances go into detail about your previous relationships. Trust me, nothing good will come from this conversation. If you have bad things to say about your ex, you’ll seem insane and if you have good things to say, it’ll look as if you still have a thing for them. I know it doesn’t seem sincere, but simply state whether or not you were in a previous relationship and that it didn’t work out. There’s no reason to reveal your entire dating history on the first few dates, some dating secrets are best reserved for a later date.

A few other obvious tips not to talk about when you are on a date are money, religion, and politics. Anything that might be controversial is best to avoid altogether on a first date. It might seem like something you want to know, but if you move too fast or come across super opinionated about something, you will only turn her away or could even make her angry. Some safe topics include your general interests and hobbies. You can also include tidbits on your family, your career, and realistic goals you have for yourself. Don’t overwhelm her and don’t make yourself seem “unreal.” Make sure you ask her questions about herself and her hobbies without prying too much as well. Try to enjoy getting to know her and really see where it takes you.

Some dating secrets are so outdated that you probably don’t feel comfortable knowing what’s true and what isn’t. The increase in forward women going after what they want often means asking a guy on a date is no longer shocking. Whoever asks for the date pays for the date. Plenty of women have been getting a free ride because this is one of those dating secrets that aren’t so secret. Whether it’s a black tie affair or a simple Saturday night date, if you ask, you pay.
